The King and the Donkey

Episode Summary

How should we think about Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem on a donkey? This story is repeated in all four gospels, demonstrating its importance. What do the texts connected to this event tell us about our Savior? The texts describing this event in the New Testament are also explicitly tied to the Old Testament. Clearly, the authors want the readers to think about Old Testament prophecies when they consider their words about this event. For instance, the prophet Zechariah spoke about the king on the donkey. In that prophecy, Zechariah quotes Psalm 72. This demonstrates Zechariah was thinking about earlier Old Testament passages as he wrote about the king on the donkey! Today, we’re replaying a sermon Tom Kelby preached at Grace Fellowship Church in Mansfield, Ohio. In this message, Tom considers Old Testament passages connected to the New Testament’s description of Jesus riding on the donkey. We pray these Scriptures bring joy to your heart as you consider these texts celebrating our king.
